Celebrating Catherine Tran

Visitation Catholic School, in conjunction with the Knights of Columbus, continued their "Celebrate a Student" program by honoring the accomplishments and integrity of fifth grader Catherine Tran.

Miss Tran is an outstanding example of humility, patience, and compassion. She volunteers for many worthwhile causes, including the food bank, Earth Day activities, feeding the hungry, and as an altar server.

She is a student council member and class president who takes charge in class projects, and is a great help in the home. While a parent was ill, she looked after her younger brother, cooked, and cleaned while keeping up with schoolwork and piano lessons.

Miss Tran is devout and reverent, praying the Rosary and attending Mass frequently. She is a role model to all who know her, students and adults.

The award was presented on May 31st, during the all-school Mass in honor of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin to Elizabeth, the school's feast Mass.

Each month, VCS celebrates one student with a picture and plaque in the school. Every student is eligible, and the nominations are judged with the students' names removed.

"The award is not just based on athletic or academic achievement," explained Gray, "but also on character issues such as personal commitment, community service, leadership, and Catholic faith values."
